The Tasmanian Ultimate Championships were initiated in June 2002 by Ian Warren. Ian wanted to see a continuation of the Sunday morning training sessions and hard games which started in 2001 in the lead up to Nationals 2002. From 2002 until 2005 TUC was played Sunday mornings from 8:45am until 10:00am through the cooler months of the year, and consisted of 2 teams. In the first 2 years games were held every 4th Sunday, and becoming more regular in the later years, being held roughly every 3rd Sunday. In 2005, playing TUC was a selection requirement for the Tasmanian Open Team (Tiggers). Teams during these years usually consisted of ~3 women and ~10 men.
Games were generally well attended, with games rarely having to be forfeited.

In 2006 there was a push to have a more official higher level league, and to move games to a more appropriate time in the afternoon, to help encourage more participation. Two leagues (Autumn and Winter) in 2006, and one league (Summer) in 2007 were held, with games being held Sunday afternoons from 4:00pm until 5:30pm, and consisted of 3 teams. Games were played were played every 2nd Sunday through all A-League seasons, meaning that each team had a bye every 6th Sunday. Teams usually consisted of ~2 women and ~10 men.
Initially A-League was well received, and well attended, but in its final season there was a lack of consistent games (due to many public holidays). This lack of consistency contributed to many games lacking enough players to field full teams, as players forgot to turn up for games, or were confused about which weekends they were supposed to be playing. After the 2007 Summer season, Aaron Pinkus (the TD) headed overseas, and no one stepped in to keep the competition running.

Spring League 2007 saw the introduction of 2 divisions to the TUA social league to cater for the increasing numbers. The Div 1 division was created to give the opportunity for more advanced player to play without needing to coach raw beginners how to player. It was played on the traditional Monday nights, and as such was generally well attended. Div 1 is only played during the Spring and Summer leagues with teams usually consisting of ~3 women and ~8men.
While Div 1 has generally been well attended, and forfeits are few, the level of play has never really been comparable to that of previous elite competitions. While the goal of Div 1 was to give advanced players a chance to play without the need to teach raw beginners, there is still a high number if intermediate players that required a sizable amount of direction, which means the advanced players have less opportunity of focus on improving their own game. The large numbers of intermediate players also means the skill level of players on the field is diluted somewhat, resulting in low quality games.
