Volunteer Officer

Summary

The TUA State Volunteer Officer is responsible for the execution of the Australian Flying Disc Association's (AFDA) REAP Volunteer Managemnt Program (VMP) for Tasmania. This includes focusing on the four main areas of the VMP:

Recruit, Educate, Acknowledge, and Preserve.

  • Recruit –Encourage and enlist volunteers.
  • Educate –Provide training and support for volunteers.
  • Acknowledge –Recognise and reward volunteer contributions
  • Preserve –Retain and prolong volunteer involvement.

Responsibilities

The State Volunteer Officer is directly responsible to the President of the TUA and the members of the TUA.

The State Volunteer Officer should:

  • Oversee the implementation of the REAP Volunteer Management Program.
  • Identifying opportunities for volunteer development.
  • Assist the Executive Committee recruit and recommend the appointment of volunteers to roles that suit them.
  • Organise the orientation and the induction of volunteers.
  • Work with the Secretary organising volunteer rosters and maintaining records.
  • Identify and organise the training, education and networking opportunities for volunteers.
  • Liaise with the Treasurer to ensure that volunteers are reimbursed for their approval out of pocket expenses.
  • Ensure all volunteers are recognised for their efforts.
  • Submit monthly updates to the TUA Executive Committee.
  • Annually review the VMP and convey recommendations to the AFDA appointed national Volunteer Officer.
  • Liaise with National Volunteer Officer on volunteer management issues.
  • Produce an annual report in relation to the role of State Volunteer Officer.
  • Complete handover interview on entering and exiting position.

Essential Criteria

  • Access to internet, email, web, and a word processing program.
  • Strong written (especially email) and oral communication skills.
  • Be a member of the AFDA and TUA and abide by their policies.
  • Work well in a team.

Desirable Criteria

Ideally the State Volunteer Officer is someone who:

  • Can communicate effectively and has good interpersonal skills.
  • Is well organised.
  • Knowledge of the TUA and AFDA operations, rules and policies.

Term of Appointment and Time Commitment Requirements

  • The State Volunteer Officer is appointed by the TUA Executive Committee for a term of 12 months.
  • The estimated time commitment required as the State Volunteer Officer of the TUA is approximately 5 hours a week.
  • Attendance at monthly Committee Meetings (approximately 2 hours).
  • Attendance at the TUA AGM meeting (approximately 1 hour).
